PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SCHOOL SPORT, CLUB LINKS (PESSCL) SURVEY

A big thank you to everyone in our partner schools for their efforts in collating and submitting data in July for the National PESSCL survey and for their commitment to High Quality P.E., Daily Physical Activity and School Sport.  68 out of our 69 Partnership schools completed the survey.  Each year we strive to make the data collection as robust as possible in order to inform the direction of the Partnership’s work and provide the information required by the DCSF to secure continued funding.  This year’s results were confirmed in October and demonstrated that The East Devon School Sport Partnership continues to compare favourably when measured against other SSPs nationally:

  • The percentage of pupils in East Devon accessing 2 Hours High quality PE and School sport rose from 91% to 93% in 2006-07.

  • The number of pupils involved in inter- school sport rose to 41 % moving from 2% above the National average in 2006 (07) to 6% above this year’s national average.

Percentage of pupils accessing 2 hours high quality PE and School Sport   Having met the national PSA target a year early, our focus now is to begin work on planning strategies that will support our schools in meeting the new 5 hour offer and Devon’s PEDPASS vision.

2007 DCMS/DCSF Partnership Mark Award  Following the strong data submitted showing that 93% of East Devon Pupils access 2 hours P.E. and School sport, The East Devon School Sport Partnership has been awarded the Government’s Sports Partnership Mark award. School Sport partnerships with over 90% of pupils accessing 2 hours PESS received the award from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Activemark & Sportsmark 2007  55 Primary and Infant schools have been awarded Activemark awards and 4 secondary schools along with Millwater Special school received Sportsmark awards.  This year DCSF made the awards if schools met the following criteria:

Primary schools Activemark 2007

  • The percentage of pupils participating in at least 2 hours high quality P.E. and school sport each week is above 90% and

  • they held a sports day; and

  • they had met or bettered the national average for pupils involved in sports leadership and volunteering (this would not apply to infant schools), or, the percentage of pupils participating in sports clubs linked to their school.

Secondary schools Sportsmark 2007

The percentage of pupils participating in at least 2 hours high quality P.E. and school sport each week is above 90%; and

  • the school held a sports day; and

  • the school met or bettered the national average in three or more of the following areas;

    • percentage of pupils taking part in inter-school competitive sport;

    • the range of sports the school offers;

    • the percentage of pupils participating in sports clubs linked to their school; or
